If Senate moderates can't drag their parties into a compromise, a showdown over judicial nominees looks inevitable. If all goes according to script, first the Republicans revoke Democrats' ability to filibuster nominees, and then in retaliation, Democrats begin a threatened slowdown of Senate business.
Amid talk of the "nuclear option" and filibusters, it remains possible that the Senate could shut down. Would anyone notice?
