Lt. Col. Eric Kruger came from a long line of military officers. His great-grandfather served in World War I. Kruger himself spent half his life in the Army. Friends and colleagues say the 40-year-old father of four made his family part of the military, and made the military part of his family.
In November, Kruger became one of the highest-ranking officers to die in Iraq. He was killed in Baghdad with two other soldiers when a roadside bomb blew up the Humvee they were riding in.
A memorial was held for Kruger earlier this month in Fort Carson, Colo. From member station KRCC, Eric Whitney reports.
