This morning, the Senate Judiciary Committee had an "executive business meeting," to consider two bills (H.R. 1933, H.R. 2765) and two nominations (James Michael Cole and Elena Kagan).
According to Sheryl Gay Stolberg and Bernie Becker, writing for The Caucus at nytimes.com, "Elena Kagan will have to wait one more week to find out if the Senate Judiciary Committee recommends her to the full senate for confirmation to the Supreme Court."
The committee on Tuesday put off its vote on the Kagan nomination at the request of Republicans, who are entitled under committee rules to ask for a one-week delay. Senator Patrick J. Leahy, the Vermont Democrat who chairs the panel, said members will convene next Tuesday, July 20, to consider the nomination.
This morning Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL), the ranking member on the committee, and the rest of its Republican membership, sent a letter to Kagan, asking her "to clarify the extent of her involvement in discussions about legal strategies relating to challenges to the President's healthcare bill."
