Here's a sample of what the start and end times may look like for students in Hillsborough County in the coming school year. Actual times for individual schools can be found here.
On Tuesday, the Hillsborough County School Board approved the bell schedule for 2018-2019. It was created based on input from parents and others. The district said 57,000 people filled out a survey for approved start times.
Hillsborough County School Superintendent Jeff Eakins echoed the district's mantra that "all children deserve a full day of school."
That's something officials said about 12,000 students were not getting on a regular basis, because bus drivers couldn't accomplish their full runs between schools with only 30 minutes of turnaround time.
A consultant for the district says the changes could save Hillsborough County Schools about $3 million in the coming year.
And the superintendent says the goal is to offer Hillsborough Out of School Time (HOST) before and after care for elementary and middle school students where it is needed. Check Hillsborough County Schools' website http://www.sdhc.k12.fl.us for more information.
