WUSF Public Media is a comprehensive public media organization that operates an NPR news and jazz radio station and an all-classical music radio station, and provides digital content online, through newsletters, podcasts and social media and serves a weekly audience of greater than 350,000. It is a department of the University of South Florida, has 70 employees and a budget of $12 million.
WUSF Public Media is looking for a team player to lead the production of our daily Health News Florida newsletter, manage the morning online news production for WUSF News and schedule postings about featured news to WUSF social media platforms.
The producer will take the lead each day in the work flow of written content on our news websites, mobile and social media platforms. The person will edit written content for accuracy and grammar and ensure it is engaging and reflects NPR and WUSF editorial style standards.
The production of the daily health newsletter requires someone who is comfortable with: an early schedule,
scanning state wires, working on deadline, finding copyright-appropriate images, writing web-friendly headlines and publishing engaging news content for the content management system used by both HealthNewsFlorida.org and WUSFNews.org.
The ideal candidate will have journalism experience, particularly in online news editing and production. The digital
editor can work remotely, and will work closely with the Digital News Editor and Health News Florida editor.
Applicants ideally should be journalists with solid and quick news judgment, familiar with health news and news
affecting the state of Florida and Tampa Bay area.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Leads the morning online production of news for WUSF News and Health News Florida websites
- Prepares daily health newsletter focusing on statewide health care policy and news Schedules regular news posts on social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, and assists in
live video events involving newsroom
- Searches state media, NPR station and wire services for important health news and state news
Works four hours a day, Monday to Friday, from 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications or related field and two years of directly
related experience; or a Master’s degree in the fields listed above. Four years of vocational/technical training and
experience may substitute for the Bachelor’s degree requirement.
Bachelor’s degree related to journalism and/or communications. Reporting and producing experience is preferred,
as is an understanding of public media.
This position is subject to a Level 1 criminal background check.
