Rick Scott Apologizes for Elephant Hunt Remarks to King of Spain

If you're meeting with the King of Spain, and he's just broken his hip in a fall during a controversial elephant hunting trip...do you bring it up?

Gov. Rick Scott not only brought it up -- he opened the conversation with it earlier this week.

"I've ridden elephants, I've never tried to shoot one," Scott said to the 74-year-old king.

"Oh," the king replied.

(Awkward silence.)

The king was widely criticized for taking the trip in the first place. Animal rights activists were apoplectic. Others wondered why the king would take such a trip while Spain suffers from 20 percent-plus unemployment.

Well, now Scott says he's sorry.

"If I did anything . . . wrong I completely apologize," he said. "The king's a wonderful person. He's a wonderful world leader. He's done so many wonderful things in his life. And we had a great conversation," Scott said when he got back to Miami.
