InVision Tampa revealed its 25-year master plan for downtown Tampa today. The hope is to make the area more pedestrian friendly and lively.

The plan encompasses downtown Tampa and extends all the way from Armenia Avenue on the west to Ybor City on the east.

Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn says it looks at everything from thinning out roads to make downtown more pedestrian friendly, to reorienting the focus of the area to its waterfront.

"For us to attract the best and the brightest from all over the world, and keep our own best and brightest kids, we have got to have a downtown that is engaged, diverse and welcoming," Buckhorn adds. "It's got to be alive. We are competing with cities that enjoy that, and it's tough competition."

The project incorporates ideas from local businesses and officials, as well as input from residents. InVision Tampa will hold the first of multiple community open houses on the new plan at the Tampa Preparatory School tonight at 6:00.
