The former Minneapolis police officer gave his condolences to George Floyd's family. He also said, without explanation, there would be "some other information in the future that would be of interest."

She said in a victim impact video played in court that when she is someday reunited with her father, she wants to "play with him, have fun. Go on a plane ride. And that's it."

"For an entire year, I had to relive George being tortured to death every hour of the day," Philonise Floyd said during his victim impact statement in court.

Carolyn Pawlenty told the judge Derek Chauvin's character has been twisted by the media. He was convicted of second degree-murder in George Floyd's death, a killing that reverberated around the world.

Prosecutors were asking for the former police officer to be sentenced to a 30-year prison term. The defense attorney called for probation and time already served.

Last June, a veto-proof majority of the Minneapolis City Council pledged to defund and dismantle the police department. They have since softened their tone.

Mayor Jane Castor established a task force last year in an attempt to change the Tampa Police Department by improving relations with the public, as well as beginning changes to police training.

Some activists hope that the verdict will lead to a change in police behavior.

Ahead of closing arguments in the case of the former Minneapolis police officer, Judge Peter Cahill issued detailed instructions to the jury. Chauvin faces three counts.

Judge Peter Cahill said the jury would be sequestered beginning next week when closing arguments are expected to start.

Ben Crump has long represented families of Black people killed by police. Crump says accountability is one thing, but "justice would be them still here with us living."

The first potential juror said she's seen the video in which Chauvin holds Floyd down as Floyd says he can't breathe. "That's not fair, because we are humans, you know?" she said.
