A power outage Thursday morning inconvenienced some on the USF Tampa campus.
Power for around 70% of the campus went off around 9:30 a.m. A TECO spokesman said a squirrel in a power substation was responsible for the outage, which interrupted students' preparations for finals next week.
Power was restored within an hour of the outage.
The USF Board of Trustees' meeting was moved from the main ballroom in the Marshall Student Center to a much smaller conference room on the third floor because of the outage. Their vote to relocate the USF Morsani College of Medicine to downtown Tampa was held as scheduled.
A similar blackout happened last year, when students and others experienced a power outage during the Spring Finals week. That outage in May 2013 was not because of a squirrel, but because of a faulty transformer.
At least one group found humor in the situation. A Facebook page "honoring" USF's furry residents, Squirrels of USF, posted TECO's tweets on the power outage along with an apology:
