The "West Florida Health" partnership -- which officials from the nonprofits say is not a merger -- first announced plans to work together in 2013. This move is a response of sorts to competition from the largerBayCareHealth System, the  Timesreports.

Meanwhile, at a forum last week in South Florida, Broward County hospital leaders predicted more mergers and consolidation, the South Florida Sun Sentinelreports. The new president and CEO of Broward Health, pointing to under-used facilities, called mergers “inevitable.”
