Each of us can probably name a few famous photographers – Ansel Adams, Robert Mapplethorpe, Annie Leibovitz … But who are considered the leading contemporary fine art photographers? Who are the rising stars? Guest speaker Christopher Jones, curator of photography and media art at the Ringling Museum of Art, will answer these questions. Over time, photography has been shaped and redefined by emerging technologies as well as new and innovative formats. Perhaps the first important innovation was color photography. More recently, we have digital manipulation and digital development. These innovations enable a photographer to produce images that go beyond what a camera can capture and provide more creative options. Christopher Jones, named Outstanding New Professional by the Florida Association of Museums in 2013, has been with the Ringling Museum since 2012.
