Dick Hyman Loves WUSF

Musician and Venice resident Dick Hyman reflects on his relationship with WUSF Public Media, host Bob Seymour and all that jazz.

On learning about jazz on WUSF: "When we first began to come down to Florida -- 'cause my wife and I are really New Yorkers and New Jerseyites historically -- one of the first things that I became aware of was Bob Seymour and the show on WUSF. I remember doing one or two appearances on his show very, very late at night. ... It's been a nice relationship. I like to tune in and see what music he's introducing. ... He's always got good stuff going."

On WUSF's all-night jazz: "It's so unusual. And in the case of WUSF, it's so historical and thorough to have a nightly station that plays nothing but jazz all night long. That's marvelous. That appeals to a large number of us, especially jazz musicians. I suppose there are other places like that around the country, but I don't know of any, even in New York at this time."

On WUSF's 50th anniversary: "I just want to congratulate WUSF. Fifty years is a remarkably long length of time to be doing something so excellent. I admire that."

"I host a food podcast" is a great icebreaker at parties.
