Best-selling author Kim John Payne is hoping the community will embrace his ideas about parenting.
He said his book, "Simplicity Parenting: Using the Extraordinary Power to Less to Raise Calmer, Happier, and More Secure Kids" is not necessarily a call to return to the 1950s, but an encouragement for parents to bring balance and bring the "kind of values that stress being together, staying connected...it's about giving kids the space they need to...really prepare them for a rapidly changing modern world."
Payne said he is not "anti-screen," (meaning TV and computers) but a proponent of giving children what they need based on neurological evidence.
Payne said "to simplify and balance family life, just start with what is doable," such as getting rid of the clutter and excess toys and providing the time and space for children to 'digest' all they've had to absorb through the week.
Payne is speaking at the Octagon Arts Center in Clearwater on Tuesday, March 10th at 7 p.m. You can find more information here.
