- Old passions from the American civil war have been reignited by a battle between Georgia and New York over Georgia's state flag. James Argroves of Peach State Public Radio reports that New York, which flies the flags of other states as a courtesy, ordered the Georgia flag, with its confederate motif, to be lowered, saying it is a symbol of racial hatred and oppresion. Georgia has retaliated by lowering the New York flag, and Argroves says the psychological chasm between the two states isn't likely to be resolved soon.
