Still Life in Monastery: 'Little Hours'

The Carthusian monks are one of the most rigorous religious orders in the world, living silently solitary lives, almost unchanged since the eleventh century.

Author Nancy Klein Maguire's new book takes us inside the monastic life, following the lives of five novices who enter St. Hugh's Charterhouse at Parkminster, England, in 1960. The ascetic order has sought to maintain the same traditions and lifestyle since it was founded in 1084.

Guest:

Nancy Klein Maguire, author, An Infinity of Little Hours; author of numerous books on 17th century theatre and politics; scholar in residence at the Folger Shakespeare Library
