Homeless veterans can find a hot shower, free food and sign up for health benefits at the Stand Down for Homeless Veterans event on Saturday at the Bay Pines VA Hospital in St. Petersburg.
Aside from enrolling for health benefits, VA Public Affairs Officer and Army veteran Jason Dangel said the stand down will connect veterans to resources and programs for things like employment, food, housing, and legal services.
"They're streamlined efforts to provide a one-stop shop to connect veterans with these benefits," Dangel said. "As a veteran myself and an active user of VA healthcare, I can tell you that VA provides the best care anywhere and we just want to make sure we can connect and provide those same types of services to as many veterans as possible."
The event will take place Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the courtyard located near building 37. Veterans need to bring a copy of their DD214 "Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty," birth certificate, social security card and shelter statement or two documents that verify their mailing address.
