Save the date: Friday, March 27th, 2026-- for the Weeki Wachee River Summit at Pasco Hernando State College, Spring Hill Campus, 450 Beverly Court, Spring Hill from 9am to 2pm. Keynote speaker will be Ryan Smart of the Florida Springs Council

The summit is hosted by Sierra Club Adventure Coast Group in cooperation with the Florida Springs Council, Save the Manatee and others to communicate present and future conditions of the river and watershed. We’ll share initiatives being implemented by Hernando County, state agencies, and Sierra Club to protect, maintain, and restore riverine conditions.

Hernando County staff, Southwest Florida Water Management District scientists and other agency representatives will provide updates on efforts to improve water quality through watershed nutrient reduction initiatives and implementation of the Weeki Wachee Springs Protection Zone designation.

Sierra Club Adventure Coast leaders will report on efforts currently being implemented in cooperation with the county and state agencies to increase awareness and compliance with the Springs Protection Zone and the Hernando County rainy season fertilizer ban to restore and improve this precious water resource.

Conveying this important work to the public and residents of Hernando County is intended to create a shared vision that will garner support, showcase solutions, and ultimately, bring the river back to a sustainable condition that will provide a viable future.
