Voices and Votes: Democracy in America

Voices and Votes: Democracy in America

The Smithsonian’s "Voices and Votes: Democracy in America" is an immersive and thought-provoking exploration of the evolution of democracy in the United States, relevant to people of all ages.
The Museum was selected by Florida Humanities to host the exhibition as part of the Smithsonian’s Museum on Main Street project. Through photographs, objects, film, audio and interactives, the exhibition explores the nearly 250-year-old American experiment of a government “of, by and for the people," from revolution and suffrage, to civil rights and casting ballots. Complementary programs will include art and poetry from local youth programs, as well as a Sunday afternoon lecture series addressing key issues in democracy, such as voting rights for African Americans, women, and immigrants.
Grand Opening Sat. March 23, 1 - 3 p.m., featuring community organizations, speakers, arts, prizes, and refreshments. Partners include League of Women Voters and Hillsborough County Elections Supervisor.
