“Jewish Jazz” ConcertFeaturing Seth Kibel, Clarinet, and Daniel Weiser, PianoThis concert on Sunday, March 22 at 4 PM highlights the fascinating connections between Klezmer music and early Jazz when Jewish immigrants escaping Pogroms in Russia combined with the Great Migration of African-Americans from the South to help produce an exciting new American sound in New York City. Many of the early great Jazz clarinetists like Benny Goodman and Artie Shaw learned to play in Synagogues and utilized techniques from the Klezmer style in their Jazz idiom. Dr. Weiser, the founder of AmiciMusic, will provide informative narration throughout the concert to help tell this interesting story.
The “Jewish Jazz” performance is part of First Presbyterian Church’s Concert Series. Free and open to the public, the concerts are funded by donors. Freewill offerings are welcomed. First Presbyterian Church, 701 Beach Drive NE, St. Pete www.fpcstpete.com
