Four WUSF News staffers are being honored for some of the best journalism of 2015 in the Southeastern United States.
The Society of Professional Journalists’ Green Eyeshade awards recognizes quality journalism among radio, television, online and newspaper journalists in 11 southern states.
All Things Considered host Lisa Peakes won first place in the Radio Newscast Category, for a selection from the daily news reports she shared during 2015.
Reporters Mark Schreiner and Steve Newborn won awards in the Feature Reporting category.
Schreiner, who covers the University of South Florida for WUSF Public Media, won second for an August 2015 story updating listeners of the ongoing investigation of the graves at the Dozier School for Boys.
Newborn, WUSF’s assistant news director who also covers the environment, won third place for a story from a series on the Florida Wildlife Corridor Expedition: "Expedition Braves the Icy Apalachicola."
Reporter Robin Sussingham was awarded second place in the Breaking News Reporting Category for her coverage of Hillsborough County’s first same sex marriage ceremonies: "Wedding Bells Ring For Same-Sex Couples."
