Residents in the Tampa Bay area are paying less for gas than anyone else in the state.

Drivers in the Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater metro market has the least expensive gas in the state at $2.28 per gallon, according to a AAA news release on Monday.

Gas prices in Florida declined again last week, by about 3 cents, according to AAA.

By comparison, the average price in Florida is $2.37, and the West Palm Beach/Boca Raton metro market is the most expensive, at $2.50.

"On average, Florida drivers are now paying the lowest price for gasoline since February," AAA spokesman Mark Jenkins said in the release. "Strong gains in fuel supplies and flat crude prices are contributing to the downturn in prices at the pump.

The price of gas has declined 10 cents a gallon in the state over the last 17 days, according to AAA, and about 13 cents compared to this time last month.

It also marks a 43-cent drop compared to this year’s high mark in April, Jenkins said.

Florida's state average is the 13th-lowest in the U.S.
