Earlier this year, Patrick Matheny, diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gherig's disease, committed suicide. He did it legally under Oregon's Death with Dignity Act. This law, a voter initiative that went into affect two years ago today, allows terminally ill people to request lethal drugs from their doctor.
