NPR's Ted Clark reports that in his second official visit to Washington since being elected Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu is being told by President Clinton and others that they expect more concrete and tangible steps by Israel to keep the Middle East process alive. Specifically, US officials are suggesting they would like to see an Israeli withdrawal from the West Bank Palestinian town of Hebron, as had been negotiated --but never carried out -- prior to Netanyahu's election.
