Florida university graduates continue to post stellar employment figures, despite a sluggish recovery.
Board of Governors researchers were able to track more than 53,000 graduates from the class of 2015 and the results were impressive.
More than 90 percent were working within a year, 71 percent full-time.
The median starting salary for full time workers was $39,100, with a spread that runs from $58,600 for engineering grads to $29,500 for biological sciences.
The study shows a significant pay gap for women and minorities, but the Board of Governor’s Christy England says knowledge is power.
“You know, honestly, just by informing students of what the possibilities are and what they’re value in the workplace is, that students themselves can probably make the biggest changes just by using this data to negotiate for higher wages.”
The study also showed that one out of every four students who found work was also continuing his or her education at the same time.
The Board of Governors will discuss the study next week when it meets at the University of South Florida in Tampa.
