Sarasota Researchers Honor World Alzheimer’s Day with FREE Bilingual Memory Screening for Community on Thursday, September 21

Intercoastal Medical Group Neurology & Research Clinic of Sarasota is hosting a FREE memory screening for individuals 55+ to raise awareness for Alzheimer’s Disease

Sarasota, Sept 5, 2023—Intercoastal Medical Group Neurology and Research Clinic will hold a free memory screening event on World Alzheimer’s Day, Thursday, September 21, 2023, to people aged 55 and above to increase awareness for early detection of memory loss and Alzheimer’s disease. Dr. Mauricio Concha, Neurologist, Dementia Specialist and Research Clinic Medical Director, and Dr. Gabriela Lodeiro, Clinical Psychologist, will be on site with a team of trained professionals to provide recommendations.

“With the diagnosis of Alzheimer’s Disease on the rise, Intercoastal Medical Group Neurology and Research Clinic is raising awareness and offering free, confidential memory screenings on World Alzheimer’s Day, Thursday, September 21, 2023,” said Dr. Mauricio Concha, Neurologist, Dementia Specialist and Research Clinic Medical Director at Intercoastal Medical Group Neurology & Research Clinic.

In Florida, it is estimated that more than 580,000 people are currently living with Alzheimer’s Disease, and experts predict that this number will increase to almost 750,000 people by 2025.

“We are committed to continue our efforts to end Alzheimer’s Disease through early detection and research, so we welcome the community to join us and take advantage of this event,” said Dr. Gabriela Lodeiro, Clinical Psychologist at Intercoastal Medical Group Research Clinic.

Intercoastal Medical Group Neurology and Research Clinic will offer its free, confidential memory screening in English and Spanish on Thursday, September 21 between 8:00 am – 3:00 pm, at Robert L. Taylor Community Complex in Sarasota, offering free parking and light refreshments for attendees. Intercoastal Medical Group Research Clinic is part of the Global Alzheimer’s Platform Foundation GAP-Net, which is a network of academic and private research sites dedicated to advancing clinical research for Alzheimer’s and other dementia related diseases.

The 30-minute memory testing for adults ages 55 and older will be conducted in a private setting. After attendees complete the assessment, they meet one-on-one with a health professional who can discuss the results with them and address any questions or concerns they have about their memory. Early detection of memory problems is crucial for more intervention options and better quality of life. It also allows individuals to learn of eligibility to participate in clinical trials to slow the progression of a memory disorder.
