Flying Above, Pilot Spots Thief in His Own Driveway

Charlotte County Sheriff's Office

A Florida pilot was flying over his home when he noticed something alarming: a burglary in progress.

Earlier this week, David Zehntner was returning home from North Carolina in his personal airplane when he decided to fly over his house in Glades County, according to this report from NBC2.

That's when he noticed Gary Robert Haines, 59, peeking into the windows of his home. Haines then hitched Zehntner's trailer to his truck and took off down the driveway.

Zehntner called the Glades County Sheriff's Office and began to follow Haines down SR-80 toward Lee County, NBC2 reports.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office made a traffic stop on Haines's truck on I-75 and detained him until Charlotte County deputies arrived to arrest him.

Authorities impounded Haines's truck, NBC2 reports. Detectives found a loaded rifle and bullets in the floorboard.
