A former USF Health librarian accused of using her university purchasing card, or "PCard," to run up hundreds of thousands of dollars in personal expenses will face a light punishment.
10 News reports a university investigation into USF Health librarian Beverly Shattuck found that she used her PCard and a department Publix charge card to buy personal items, including groceries, iPads, and gift cards, as well as pay for personal storage units and cell phone bells.
The charges took place from 2010 to early 2012, with almost $147,000 coming in fiscal 2012 alone--a fact made even more impressive since she left USF with a third of the fiscal year remaining.
After an investigation by the USF Police Department and the State Attorney's Office, Shattuck agreed to pay $7,785 in restitution to the university. Under the deal, she will also enter a pre-trial diversion program. As a result, no criminal charges will be filed.
However, she will not have to repay USF the over $11 thousand she was overpaid for days she didn't work. In addition, she'll still receive her retirement benefits because she wasn't convicted.
10 News reports the university has added stronger restrictions and regulations on the PCard program since the theft came to light.
"We're always in the process of improving," USF Chief Operating Officer John Long told 10 News in March. "We never stop and rest on our laurels."
10 News also says Shattuck has since left Florida and moved to another state.
