Sarasota County NAACP To Host Community Conversation

Late last week, Sarasota County NAACP President Trevor Harvey reached out to the Sarasota Police and the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office. He called for a "frank discussion with our community and law enforcement" following the deaths of two black men who were shot by police, in Louisiana and Minnesota, and the deaths of five Dallas police officers.

In Harvey's words, "Our goal is not to bring all the stakeholders together to point fingers, to blame this person, to blame that person, because that gets us nowhere. Our whole idea is how do we come together, what solutions should we come up with as a community, as a whole to move forward."

Harvey said as one of the community's grassroots organizations, the NAACP decided to have this conversation. It's happening this Wednesday night, July 13th at Bethel CME church in Sarasota.

I love telling stories about my home state. And I hope they will help you in some way and maybe even lift your spirits.
