The Hillsborough County State Attorney's office and the county medical examiner are investigating the death of a two-year-old boy yesterday.
Joseph Manchego was left behind in his half-sister's car for several hours, after she drove to work at "BFF Kidz Child Care Center," a daycare in Brandon. When 21-year-old Fiorella Silva-Tello came back to her car, she found the boy unconscious and took him to a neighboring business, where they called 9-1-1.
The little boy didn't make it.
Sue Auriemma of kidsandcars.org said no one should ever think it can't happen to them.
“Obviously a child should never be left alone in a vehicle, not even for a minute. And we want to make sure children don't get in on their own, so cars should always be locked, even in the driveway or garage, and keys and key fobs should always be left out of reach of children,” Auriemma said.
This is the second child in Florida to die in a hot car in 2017. No charges have been filed.
