The historic Cuban Club in Tampa's Ybor City saw nearly $1 million in planned renovations cut by Gov. DeSantis in the 2025-26 state budget.

A lot of projects near and dear to Tampa Bay area lawmakers were put on the chopping block by Gov. Ron DeSantis.

At least 80 projects in the greater Tampa Bay area were vetoed by Gov. Ron DeSantis as he signed the new state budget hours ahead of Tuesday's deadline. They totaled nearly $70 million.

The top project to get axed was $14 million for a hanger for the aviation division of the Hillsborough Sheriff's Office. Next up at around three million dollars each were generators for Hillsborough County; generators for the Strawberry Festival building in Plant City; and an emergency operations center in Haines City.

A planned $2.5 million workforce center at Hillsborough Community College's Plant City campus got redlined by the governor.

Nearly $1 million was cut from planned renovations at Ybor City's historic Cuban Club, and more than $500,00 won't be going to renovations at two other historic venues in Ybor, the Italian Club and Centro Asturiano.
