Governor Rick Scott was in town today as a part of his back-to-school tour for a bill signing ceremony.
The bill signing ceremony in Downtown Tampa was spurred by Armwood High School students and a teacher. It won the "ought to be a law" competition and they drafted and presented the bill in Tallahassee.
It allows homeless teens as young as 16 to get birth certificates and social security cards without their parents' or guardians' signatures.
Scott says this bill is meaningful to the community.
"You know what's nice is one: it's a bill that makes some sense," says Scott.
"It impacts people's lives. It's great to have young individuals get involved in the bill production process. So it's nice that they came up, it's nice that they got involved, it's great that we had a bill," he says.
Governor Scott then headed to Office Depot on Dale Mabry to help distribute school supplies.
