Due to an influx of voters in recent weeks, the Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections Office plans to stay open an extra two hours Tuesday - October 9 – the last day Floridians can register to vote in the 2012 presidential election.
Travis Abercrombie, a spokesman for the Hillsborough Supervisor of Elections, said Monday at lunchtime about 20 people showed up within five minutes to register or update their voter information. He said the pace has stayed constant over the last several weeks.
“They were very passionate about doing so. Even in line, you could sense there was an enthusiasm not only about the election but also a little bit – I don’t want to say apprehension – but a little nervousness about the ballot because it is six pages and most of these voters haven’t seen a ballot this long in quite a while,” Abercrombie said.
The Hillsborough Supervisor of Elections Office traditionally closes at 5 p.m. But, Abercrombie said Tuesday, October 9, the office will remain open until 7 p.m. to accommodate voters.
