Three million voters cast ballots in Florida before Election Day this year.
In Florida, 1.7 million voted absentee, and another 1.3 million voted early, which could turn out to be an all-time record.
Meanwhile, the more than 6,200 polling locations across the state opened without any problems this morning, according to Secretary of State Ken Detzner.
He said an increase in early and absentee voting should lead to results coming in fairly quickly once the last polls close in the Florida Panhandle.
During the 2014 primary election, more people voted early than on Election Day for the first time. Detzner expects that trend could continue, and voters should see fewer lines than in 2012.
“That convenience, having enough locations for them to go to vote, having enough equipment, the basic fundamental administration of an election,” Detzner said. “I think we are seeing at this point in time a very successful operation.”
Federal Department of Justice poll observers are present today in Duval, Orange, Hillsborough and Lee counties.
Detzner says Florida is one of 17 states where federal observers are watching the voting process.
