Florida Matters: State Of The Bay

Suncoast Tiger Bay Club

The Suncoast Tiger Bay Club recently hosted the mayors of St. Petersburg and Tampa for a conversation on the “State Of The Bay.”

This week on Florida Matters (Tuesday, Jan. 19 at 6:30 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 24 at 7:30 a.m.), we’re bringing you highlights of the discussion between Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn and St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman.

While there has been competition between the two cities for decades, the mayors focused more on the strength of the Tampa Bay Area as a region, and partnership over competition on planning, economic and transportation issues.

"We can't build more roads, but we certainly have a lot of water," Kriseman said.

It was a reference to a ferry pilot project that’s planned to connect the two cities.

“I think we also need to recognize that we can’t build enough roads to get us out of this ditch,” Buckhorn said. “We have got to have mobility options."
