The Department of Veterans Affairs has grown increasingly concerned about the rise in veteran suicides in recent years.

This week on Florida Matters we're talking about the impact these deaths have on comrades and loved ones, and what support is available to help them heal. It's the first episode in a special two-part program on this issue.

In this preview, Florida Matters host Robin Sussingham talks with Chaplain Linda Pugsley, a Vietnam veteran flight nurse and chaplain at MacDill Air Force Base, and Carla Stumpf-Patton with the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) about the importance of veterans and loved ones learning how to tell their own stories.

I cover health care for WUSF and the statewide journalism collaborative Health News Florida. I’m passionate about highlighting community efforts to improve the quality of care in our state and make it more accessible to all Floridians. I’m also committed to holding those in power accountable when they fail to prioritize the health needs of the people they serve.
Robin Sussingham was Senior Editor at WUSF until September 2020.
