BBC's Gillett Rounds Up the 'Sound of the World'

Every Saturday night on the BBC Radio London, Charlie Gillett spins music from around the world. Each of the past few years he's compiled some of the top titles into CD collections. His latest, called Sound of the World, which is also the name of his show, includes artists from Bulgaria, Senegal, New Zealand and other corners of the globe.

The two-CD collection includes Sissy Atanassova, whose Bulgarian song "Chaje Shukarije" is reminiscent of a Bollywood musical; Mauritania's Malouma, who combines a traditional West African sound with the blues-and-jazz influences of her father's record collection; and New Zealand's DJ Fitchie & Joe Dukie, whom Gillett calls "one of the most genuinely soulful singers of our time."
