The Off the Base news series is a compilation of stories and interviews for, about and sometimes by Florida's veterans and military families. In addition to radio features, there's a blog with practical as well as whimsical information and numerous guest entries from military family members and veterans at OfftheBase.org

- A WWII pharmacist's mate Jack Griffin talks about his war service in the Pacific and the 10 days he spent treating wounded Marines during the Battle of Okinawa with his son. - Judge Pat Maney noticed that increasing numbers of veterans and active duty military were showing up in his courtroom for misdemeanor offenses like writing a bad check. Maney talks about getting the state to create a “Veterans Docket” to get help for the vets because he knows what it’s like to have invisible injuries that affect your life and judgment. - A feature story about a local effort to help with the high unemployment among young veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Several older veterans turned business executives, members of the local chapter of SCORE, set up a business expo especially for veterans looking to start their own businesses.
