The SHINE Mural Festival is coming to St. Petersburg Nov. 6-15.

Thirteen mural artists will descend on St. Petersburg Nov. 6-15, for the 12th annual SHINE Mural Festival. Public art has become a familiar (and welcome) sight in 21st century St. Pete; indeed, because of the St. Petersburg Arts Alliance’s commitment to excellence, and creative diversity, its SHINE event has helped put the city on the radar of the global art community.

This year’s painting population includes an artist from the United Kingdom, a native Italian currently based in Charlotte, North Carolina, another Italian who makes his home in Miami, others from around America, and five artists who residing in the Tampa Bay area.

They are all professional muralists with different styles, subject matter and ways of creating.

SHINE is an ongoing event; all these artists will be working, during daylight hours, at their assigned wall. Feel free to walk up and ask questions (you might have to yell, if the artist is up high on a hydraulic life); they’re expecting to hear from you.

As always, SHINE 12 is bookend by open-to-the-public receptions:

“My training is rooted in classical painting, and I still approach a face, a hand, or a figure with the same concern for structure, light, and human presence that brought me to painting in the first place. But I am equally interested in what happens when that representation begins to break apart – when an image becomes atmosphere, pattern, memory, or symbol.”
