A Florida appeals court has affirmed the conviction and sentence of a man convicted three years ago as part of a terror plot.
Acting U.S. Attorney W. Stephen Muldrow said the announcement Monday in a news release.
Thirty-year-old Sami Osmakac was sentenced in November 2014 to 40 years in prison for attempted us of weapons of mass destruction and possession of a fully automatic firearm.
Prosecutors said Osmakac was part of a 2012 terror plot to use weapons of mass destruction at an Irish pub and the Seminole Hard Rock Casino in the Tampa Bay area.
On appeal Osmakac argued his surveillance violated the law and a misstatement by the government during closing arguments was unfair. The US. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit rejected his arguments.
