Miller's Seat Could Be Filled In Mid-Session

The Sarasota County House seat left vacant by the resignation of Republican Alex Miller could be unfilled for the first half of the 2018 legislative session.

Gov. Rick Scott on Friday scheduled a special general election on Feb. 13, more than a month after the Jan. 9 start of the 60-day session. A special primary election is scheduled for Dec. 5.

Miller, who was elected to the seat in 2016, announced her resignation last month, citing family and business obligations.
