Tampa Bay Counties Offer Christmas Tree Recycling Programs

Daylina Miller/WUSF News
All Christmas trees will need to be stripped of ornaments, tinsel and other decorations before they are ready for recycling.

Now that the holidays have passed, many Tampa Bay residents may be wondering what to do with their Christmas trees.

Local governments throughout the area are offering tree recycling services, which will turn the holiday decoration into mulch that can be used throughout the year.

Jan Tracy, Pinellas County’s Solid Waste program coordinator, said that depending on the city, many residents can simply put their tree on the curb for collection. Others might have to bring the trees into their county's solid waste facility to be recycled.

All Christmas trees will need to be stripped of ornaments, tinsel and other decorations.

Directions for tree recycling differ from county to county:

Pinellas County

Hillsborough County

Pasco County

Polk County

Sarasota County
