Jeb Bush, the brother and son of two former U.S. presidents, tells reporters Saturday he is "not going to be vice president."
The former Florida governor talked with journalists, including Lance Shearer writing for the Naples News, just before delivering the commencement speech at Ave Maria University Saturday. The first question was about Bush possibly being Mitt Romney's vice presidential nominee:
"Wow, no foreplay," he quipped. "I'm not going to be vice president. I'm an active supporter of governor Romney. I humbly suggest he seriously consider Marco Rubio."
Bush is pushing for Florida's junior senator, the Cuban-American Rubio, to get the second spot on the ticket.
Bush said Romney should focus on a "proactive immigration policy that promotes legal immigration. We can't send a signal that we want to be the old white guy party."
Florida is a key swing state and Bush says its essential for Romney to win the state or else he'll have to make up a lot of ground elsewhere.
