In Florida, Democrats running for statewide office face uphill battles in a GOP-dominated state. Alex Vindman talks about why he can buck the trend. But first, he has to survive Tuesday's primary.

The Democratic U.S. Senate candidate criticized Moody, who was Florida attorney general at the time, over her office’s role in the Hope Florida scandal.

The survey also shows Byron Donalds leading David Jolly by 5 points, 46%-41%, in the race for Florida governor.

State Democratic leaders in Florida are hoping for a reversal of fortune in this year's midterm elections. Yet, some in the state's minority party say electoral realities and potential party factions could make any statewide path to victory challenging.

"I'm fighting to lower costs for Florida families, and that starts with an immediate pause on the federal gas tax to provide immediate relief for Floridians." Vindman said in a statement.

Vindman is seeking the Democrat nomination to run against Republican Sen. Ashley Moody. The winner of November's special election will finish the last two years of Marco Rubio's term.
