Looking forward: The month of November in the arts

Nov. 7 at Raymond James Stadium: British singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran.

Now that Tropicana Field is back in operation, St. Petersburg will again welcome Enchant, which was MIA during the arena’s two years of hurricane-caused closure. Opening day is Nov. 20.

Formerly known as Enchant Christmas, the giant walk-through holiday light maze and ice skating rink will remain at the Trop through Dec. 27.

November 2026 has a packed-to-the-gills slate of arts events, both onstage and otherwise. There are a few with holiday themes creeping in this month, but most of the real stocking stuffers – Christmas concerts and theatrical productions – won’t arrive at our chimneys until December.

Here are a few notables, followed by the complete list.

First it was a book by Dan Brown, then a film by Ron Howard, and now The Da Vinci Code is a theatrical play, (adapted from Bown’s book by Rachel Wagstaff and Duncan Abel). The historical suspense thriller opens Nov. 6 at freeFall Theatre, with James Putnam (leading an all-star bay area cast) as Professor Robert Langdon, who must decipher a labyrinthine code before … some bad stuff happens.

British singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran performs Nov. 7 at Raymond James Stadium. Sheeran drew criticism recently for dropping Macklemore from the current Loop tour, after the rapper used the stage to show support for Palestine in the ongoing conflict with Israel.

In solidarity, four other acts scheduled to open Sheeran’s upcoming concerts resigned. Warmups for the Nov. 7 RayJay show will be Rome and Isaac Slade.

Here’s a trivial bit of trivia: The Canadian rock trio Rush played its first-ever Florida concert at Papa’s Dream, a Christian teen nightclub in St. Petersburg, in September, 1974. Not too long later, the band became huge.

After the death of Neil Peart in 2020, Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson took some time to grieve and regroup (the band had all but retired back in 2015). They’re out on the road now, on the cheekily-named Fifty-Something Tour, with Anika Nilles “filling in” for Peart behind the drums (a Rolling Stone reviewer said Nilles “absolutely kills”). Shows are Nov. 9 and 11 at Benchmark International Arena.

At Benchmark Nov. 13 is the innovative pop and hip hop performer Doja Cat, who’s sold somewhere around 35 million records. “Say So” (in a remix with Nicky Minaj) reached the top of the Billboard 100; her other hits have included the Grammy-winning “Kiss Me More” (feat. SZA), over 2.5 billion streams on Spotify; “Paint The Town Red” (over 1.6 billion streams); “Need to Know” (over 1.5 billion streams); “You Right” (with The Weeknd), over 1.1 billion streams; and “Agora Hills,” over 1 billion streams.

Reggae’s Third World Plays the BayCare Sound Nov. 15.

Reggae Sound Splash Fest (Nov. 15 at the BayCare Sound) brings in The Legendary Wailers featuring founding guitarist Julian Junior Marvin, plus Third World, Inner Circle and the veteran Jamaican ska outfit the Ska-Talites.

New choreography from Jennifer Archibald, LaMichael Leonard Jr., Kirsten Standridge and Jonah Perez-Lopez highlights MIXed: Pulse of the City, November’s presentation from projectALCHEMY dance, on the 20th and 21st at The Studio. The evening will also include the debut of filmmaker Joey Clay’s MIXed: Across St. Pete, chronicling the company’s 2025 pop-up dance happenings in neighborhoods and public spaces throughout St. Petersburg.

Guitarists Adrian Belew and Steve Vai, bassist Tony Levin and drummer Terry Bozzio are BEAT, and their world tour brings them to the Mahaffey Theater Nov. 24 for a concert of 1980s King Crimson music from the iconic albums Discipline, Beat and Three Of A Perfect Pair.

OK, one pre-Christmas show: Sheena Easton, Ruben Studdard and All-Four-One will croon under the mistletoe for the Nov. 30 Home For the Holidays concert at Ruth Eckerd Hall
