Democratic U.S. Rep. Charlie Crist has won re-election to Congress for a third term.
Crist defeated Republican Anna Paulina Luna, who was seeking office for the first time.
A longtime fixture in Florida politics, Crist served as a state legislator, education commissioner and attorney general before being elected governor of the country's third-most populous state in 2006.
Crist was a Republican until his final year as governor, but left the party in 2010 as an independent before becoming a Democrat in 2012.
He told Spectrum Bay News 9 that he's looking forward to another term.
"No. 1, I'm just grateful," he said. "Public service I think is a calling. It's something I've done for a long time, and I'm honored to have the opportunity to do it some more."
In another key race, Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri, a Republican, won re-election against Democratic contender Eliseo Santana with 62% of the vote.
Gualtieri told Spectrum Bay News 9 that the win is an affirmation of the work that his agency has done over the past nine years.
"The men and women of the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office work hard every day," Gualtieri said. "So I'm thrilled for all of us that we can continue to accomplish the things we have, reduced crime. What we're doing is working so I'm absolutely thrilled about it."
Santana was a longtime employee of the sheriff's office who received a lot of support from the local Democratic party.
