Esther Scott, Mother of Florida Gov. Rick Scott, Dies

Esther Scott, the mother of Florida Gov. Rick Scott, died Tuesday in her hometown of Kansas City, Mo. She was 84. 

In 2010, Esther Scott became a household name -- or at least face -- when she starred in this commercial during her son's gubernatorial campaign:

Esther Scott had been hospitalized since last month with an infection, according to the Miami HeraldLast month, Scott canceled events and flew to Kansas City to spend several days visiting his mother in the intensive care unit.

On Tuesday, Gov. Scott posted this message on his Twitter account: "My Mom – one of the only constants in my life – has passed away. Ann and I are comforted by all the thoughts and prayers for our family."
