Florida’s newest Senate candidate made his first visit to Tampa today since his announcement to run.
Current Florida Gov. Rick Scott is challenging Democratic incumbent Bill Nelson.
At a morning rally in Tampa's "Creative Sign Design" warehouse, Scott told employees and media his first move will be to push for term limits on members of the U.S. Congress.
"We've got to get rid of this concept of career politicians. We’ve got to say, 'career politicians haven't really worked for us,’” Scott said. “Almost all of the country, but Washington D.C., believes in term limits. We have them for our legislature here. We have them for governors around the country for most states. We have them for our president. We ought to have them for Congress."
Scott's record on gun laws have earned him an A+ rating from the National Rifle Association.
But following the Parkland school shooting in February, Scott signed a law that included raising the age limit to purchase rifles.
Some are questioning whether he'll lose NRA support in race against Nelson, as well as whether he'll accept their campaign contributions.
Scott said he won’t turn down donations.
"I'm telling people what I'm going to do and if people want to contribute, they'll contribute. But I can tell you, I'm an NRA member, I'm going to continue to be an NRA member and I really believe in the importance of the second amendment,” Scott said. “But I believe in commonsense solutions and I believe the bill we passed as a result of the Parkland shooting is commonsense."
Scott will continue holding his "Let’s Get To Work" rallies around the state this week.
