The state Department of Commerce reports the jobless rate for September was 4.4%, down 0.1% from August. The mark reflects an estimated 489,000 unemployed Floridians from a labor force of 11.1 million.

The August figure represents 502,000 unemployed Floridians out of a workforce of 11.1 million, 12,000 fewer people than a month earlier.

State economists have pointed to new entrants to the job market needing more time to find work, as opposed to people losing their jobs as one of the culprits behind the rise in the jobless rate.

A key measure of the economy's health showed a dramatic pickup, which President Trump called "amazing." But some analysts doubt the higher growth rate will last.
