Tampa Mayor Jane Castor and members of the city's Transportation Advisory Team unveiled final recommendations Friday for how to tackle the area's growing transit issues.

The city will start by moving transportation out from under Public Works so it becomes its own department.
The plan also includes expanding the city's street car service, working with HART on bus rapid transit, reassessing the city's land development codes and developing a smartphone app that would help people find and reserve parking spaces.

“It's not a question of rail or BRT, water or land, highway or green ways," Castor said. "We need it all."
City officials say they’re ready to implement the new plan upon the release of transportation sales tax funds - approved by Hillsborough County voters.

The county is currently collecting the tax but can’t spend it until a legal challenge is resolved by the Florida Supreme Court. The court intends to take it up in February.
The transportation team is part of the Transforming Tampa’s Tomorrow Advisory Teams established by Castor. These teams include Transportation, Development Services, Workforce Development, Affordable Housing, and Sustainability and Resilience.
