Bill sponsor Bob Rommel said the legislation would “send a message” that Florida won’t engage with corporations using “progressive ideology” or “exercising corporate activism when issuing bonds.”

In a pair of caucus meetings, House and Senate leaders said Gov. Ron DeSantis is using the session as a chance to raise his profile and to push his agenda on culture war issues as he considers a 2024 presidential run.

A Republican-authored bill seeking a $1 billion reinsurance fund, reduced litigation costs and to force some customers to leave a state-created insurer passed the Florida House. It now goes to Gov. Ron DeSantis.

Activists are set to rally outside the Capitol to oppose the plan, which some Black Democrats are calling a “racist tactic.”
